IN HONOR OF INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY ON SEPTEMBER 21ST, there were several peace activities in Pacifica
Three members of Saint Edmund’s participated in a public reading of Dr. Martin Luther King’s 1967 speech “Beyond Vietnam, A Time to Break the Silence” in front of the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica. It was a well-attended event put on by the Pacifica Peace People.

FOLLOWING THE GUIDANCE OF LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS AND OUR BISHOP, WE ARE BEGINNING TO CHECK OFF NAMES OF EVERYONE 12 YEARS AND OLDER WHEN THEY SHOW US THEIR PROOF OF VACCINATION. WE HOPE THIS WILL ALLOW US TO DROP THE MASK AND DISTANCING REQUIREMENT IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

May we cloak ourselves in Christ’s love and brighten the the world around us with hope, grace, peace, and mercy.

Rev. Kathy’s last day at St Edmund’s was a joyful celebration! Cannon Debra Low-Skinner presented Rev. Kathy with a formal proclamation from the diocese honoring her. We wish Rev. Kathy well in her retirement.

A PRAYER FOR THIS DIFFICULT TIME OF UNREST IN OUR COUNTRY: Oh God, you have bound us together in a common life. Help us, in the midst of our struggles for justice and truth, to confront one another without hatred or bitterness, and to work together with mutual forbearance and respect; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Book of Common prayer, p. 824
FIRST SUNDAYS OF THE MONTH we will have a Zoom 10AM service with shared communion using pre-consecrated wafers. Small boxes of Communion kits will be available week for pick up at select times at church or will be delivered to Pacificans by Doug Pleasure. Some can be mailed. “Though I may not be with you, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe. In my life I have done all I can do to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way. Now it is your turn to let freedom ring.”

RESOURCES FOR EXPLORING RACISM AND EQUALITY. See”From the Vicar” in upper right hand corner for a list of resources including: general info, movies, documentaries, books, and poetry.

Also, on June 7th Anna Devere Smith was Grace Cathedral’s guest preacher. Anna’s activism in exploring racism and inequality brought a special perspective to Grace Cathedral’s sermon as our nation and world are seeking to move forward with meaningful dialogue and changes in systemic racism. If you missed her sermon, you can find the link to it on Grace Cathedral’s website at gracecathedral.org. Click on “Services and Sermons” under “Spiritual Life.”
